A local man was charged with felony theft Wednesday after police say they caught him with stolen merchandise.
Paris police officers responded to a shoplifter report in the 2400 block of N. Main Street at Atwoods.
“An officer located a subject matching the description of the suspect walking in the 2200 block of N. Main Street,” said Doug Thompson of the Paris Police Department. “The officer located some of the reported stolen items in the possession of the subject.”
The subject, he said, was Alex Goforth. The items were valued at $276.01.
“The stolen items were returned to the store and Goforth was placed under arrest,” Thompson said.
During booking, it was found that Goforth had two previous convictions for theft, so the charge was enhanced to a felony.
