The Paris police officer involved in the shooting death of Edward Paul Zumski III, 35, has returned to duty after being placed on administrative leave. The Texas Rangers continue to investigate the incident.

The unnamed officer was called to the Kings Inn motel in the 1900 block of Lamar Avenue on Oct. 20 for reports of a stabbing.

Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley explained that when officers arrived, they found a victim in the parking lot bleeding from chest wounds and was confronted by the suspect in the stabbing, Zumski, who had a handgun.

Zumski is alleged to have pointed the handgun at officers and was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The stabbing victim was transported to Paris Regional Medical Center where they were treated for the stab wounds,” said Hundley.

Once the Texas Rangers finish their investigation, Hundley said a full statement will be released.
