For the second year in a row, the North Lamar Panthers played the Melissa Cardinals at the American Airlines Center. For the second year in a row, the North Lamar Panthers won in dramatic style. Thanks to Menderiz Gray, the Panthers walked out with a 49-48 victory over the Cardinals.

I’m not sure what the deal is, but Gray enjoys playing at the AAC. Last year, he tipped in a shot at the buzzer to defeat the Cardinals by one point 52-51.
On Monday, Gray was given the ball after a made bucket by Melissa. Dribbling at the top of the key, he waited. With the clock under six seconds, he made his move. He drove to the right and pulled up for an eight foot baseline shot. The whole building watched as the ball hit the front of the rim and then bounced up and back through the net.
With one second on the clock, Melissa tried throwing it down the court but the pass was intercepted by North Lamar. The Panthers had knocked off Melissa for the second straight year. Melissa walked away in disbelief as North Lamar celebrated on the home of the Dallas Mavericks.
The game itself was just as exciting. Both teams battled back and forth. The Panthers jumped out to an early 11-4 lead, but Melissa came roaring back with six straight points to end the quarter. Melissa would then outscored North Lamar by a couple in the second quarter to take a one point lead at halftime.
The game would be tied at the end of the third which set up the dramatic fourth quarter for North Lamar. Menderiz was the only Panther in double digit scoring as he had 23 points. Gray also finished with six rebounds.
Josh Daingerfield had eight points for North Lamar. Tyler Hill had five points and a team high eight rebounds. Jake Stewart finished with five points and four rebounds in the game. North Lamar will travel to Idabel on Friday to play the Warriors.
